The drama started on X when Nnaji, 46, shared a photo she took at colleague Rita Dominic’s 50th birthday celebration on Sunday. Onakoya, 30, who couldn’t resist commenting, quoted the film star’s post and simply wrote, “Hi”.
He then humorously upped the stakes in a follow-up tweet, declaring that he would only step aside for another suitor if they could defeat him in a chess match.
Hmmm. I see that the competition is quite tough. I’ll only concede if any other suitor can beat me in a chess match,” the post reads.
The chess champion’s advances toward Nnaji led to humorous exchanges that quickly went viral on the microblogging platform.
Responding to the tweets, Onakoya downplayed his earlier flirtation, quipping: “Let’s calm down guys. I was only wondering if she wanted to buy my chess board”.
However, his comments did not stop users from airing their differing views.
While some users applauded Onakoya’s confidence, others teased him about “shooting his shot” with one of Nollywood’s most revered stars and advised him to go for his “league”.
