There is no doubting that Cole Palmer has quickly become a taslismanic figure for Chelsea.
Since arriving at the club on transfer deadline day in September 2023, the Manchester City youth product wasted little time showing how good he is and collecting plaudits. The 22-year-old has already notched 14 goals and six assists this term after racking up 27 goals and 15 assists in a mesmerising debut season.
While Palmer’s reputation has blossomed, Chelsea’s has continued to struggle to live up to past glory. The Blues will expect European Conference League success but their chances of earning Champions League football remain uncertain once again.
That combination has ensured that the England international’s future is speculated upon, with pundits offering wondering how long Palmer would be willing to not compete for the very highest honours. Former Manchester United forward Dwight Yorke has played down the prospect of exit but conceded Liverpool could prove a tempting option should he be deemed Mo Salah’s replacement.
Yorke told CasinoBeats: “He doesn’t strike me as that kind individual. I don’t think he would demand to leave Chelsea if he’s playing a season out of the Champions League. He’s still very young, and he’s gone there and turned his career around and became the top man there. Why would you walk away from being in a club and being the top man at the same time?
Where is he going to go and become a top player and the top man? Liverpool? Maybe Man United, he said he’s a Man United fan, but he won’t go there because he’s a City man. Outside of that is Arsenal, he won’t go there because Bukayo Saka is there.
“Liverpool might be an option if Mo Salah were to leave, so that might be something that they might look to do. So, watch this space with that if Mo Salah leaves.”
