Liam Payne’s grief-stricken girlfriend packed the remains of her shattered life into cardboard boxes as she was left facing an uncertain future – just days after saying a final farewell to the superstar singer. Heartbroken Kate Cassidy, 25, appeared close to tears after gathering together her belongings as she moved out of the property where she had been living in the aftermath of the tragedy.
A forlorn-looking Kate stood in the street surrounded by her possessions after vacating the modern high rise apartment which is believed to have been owned by her late partner.
At one point the American model and influencer was spotted holding on tightly to a cuddly toy – a colourful squishmallow which was too big to pack into her luggage – it appeared to be a treasured memento of the time the couple spent together.
She was greeted by a friend who helped her load stacks of boxes and suitcases into a rented van before heading off to an unknown destination.
Neighbours said Kate would be relying on the generosity of friends to put her up as she prepares to fly back to the US to spend Christmas with her family.
She flew to the UK the day after tragedy struck when Liam plunged to his death from the balcony of his third-floor hotel suite in Buenos Aires, Argentina, last month.
Just weeks ago, Kate and Liam, 31, were planning their future together.
The couple, who have been in a relationship for two years, had been in Argentina to attend former bandmate Horan’s sell out concert in the city.
Kate flew back to the couple’s home in Miami on October 14 while Liam remained behind to renew his US visa.
After the tragedy Kate travelled to Britain to join Liam’s family and close friends at an emotional funeral service at the 12th Century St Mary’s Church in Amersham, Buckinghamshire.
The popstar was laid to rest after his casket was driven to the church in a white horse drawn hearse.
His One Direction bandmates Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, Niall Horan and Louis Tomlinson were among mourners.
They were united in grief as they appeared in public together for the first time since the band split in 2015.
Former Girls Aloud star Cheryl, mum to Liam’s seven-year-old son Bear, was also in attendance.
