Less than two months have passed since the 2024 Paris Olympics ended, but Part 2 of Simone Biles: Rising, which gives an intimate view of the gymnast’s return to the international games, drops on Netflix on Oct. 25.
Biles captured the world’s attention as she helped Team USA win gold and became the first woman to ever win the all-around title in non-consecutive Olympics in Paris. After winning three gold and one silver medal, Biles returned home as the most-decorated gymnast in U.S. history.
While Biles traverses the country headlining the Gold Over America Tour, fans can’t help but wonder if the 27-year-old will return for the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles, or hang up her leotards for good.
In the final scene of Simone Biles: Rising, director Katie Walsh asks Simone, “Are we saying goodbye to something we love?”
Biles replies, “Mentally, rewiring your brain is so hard. And nobody really truly looks at themselves in the mirror and is like, ‘I need to work on myself and I’m going to work on myself. Showing up is the hardest part. If I look back at my career, honestly, the thing I’d be most proud of is staying true to myself and never swaying from that.”
While speaking with Athlon Sports, Walsh addressed her decision to end the series in such a cryptic way.
“You know, it’s just truthful,” Walsh said. “Your guess is as good as mine on that. I think there was a time where I was like, oh, she’ll definitely be back in LA. Yeah. So, I always joke that I’ll be babysitting her kids and she’ll be competing and winning gold medals.
“But she’s accomplished so much in the sport. She’s done as much as I can imagine you would put on your bucket list.
“So, I don’t know if she’ll come back or not. I truly don’t know. She has so much to look forward to in her life outside of just the actual competitive side of gymnastics, I have no doubt there’s going to be so many great things she’s going to do. Whether that includes competing again or not, your guess is as good as mine.”
