Former Green Bay Packers star Brett Favre has weighed in on the topic of celebrities and politics, expressing his disapproval of public figures using their fame to influence political opinions. This came after Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes addressed a political situation involving his family.
Favre praised Mahomes’ neutral stance on the matter, but also took what appeared to be a subtle jab at pop icon Taylor Swift for her recent endorsement of Kamala Harris.
The situation began when Mahomes’ wife, Brittany, faced backlash for liking a social media post in support of former President Donald Trump. Trump, during an appearance on Fox & Friends, expressed his preference for Brittany over Taylor Swift, who had publicly backed Kamala Harris in her presidential bid.
This mention brought Mahomes into the conversation, and when asked about it, the quarterback made it clear that he doesn’t want to use his platform to guide people’s political opinions. He emphasized that while he understands his influence, he prefers to keep his political views private.
“I don’t want my place and my platform to be used to endorse a candidate or do whatever. My place is to inform people to register to vote, inform people to do their own research and make their best decision for them and their family,” Mahomes said.
Favre publicly praised Mahomes for this approach, stating that he admired the quarterback’s decision to avoid steering his fanbase one way or the other politically.
