Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are reportedly seeking to hold reconciliatory talks with the royal family, sparking hopes of resolving their years-long feud.
King Charles III is also understood to be open to ending the rift between them after seeking counsel from religious leaders.
The British monarch is reportedly open to having a “truce” with Prince Harry, who is still fighting to reinstate his security in the U.K.
A royal rapprochement between the Duke and Duchess of Sussex and the royal family might just be close as a source claimed that Harry and Meghan are “desperate” to hold peace talks with his family.
The couple’s decision to step back from their senior royal duties in 2020 seemingly led to a tense rift with the rest of the family, as the pair hurled several troubling accusations against them.
An insider told the Daily Mail, “It seems quite clear that they are desperate to start healing the rift” with the royal family.
However, another source cautioned that several royal family members may still be scratching their heads over it, as they worry that anything they discuss will appear in another memoir.
“The problem for the King and other members of the family is the worry that if they have a chat with Harry, it will appear in a Spare volume two,” the source told The Times. “How do you regain the trust? I don’t think Harry ever can. But from the conversations I’ve had with the king, I would never say their relationship is irreparable.”
They added, “The King’s capacity to forgive his son is undimmed. There are other members of the royal family who are much more weighted against Harry, that’s the problem.”
It comes as Harry’s father, King Charles, has seemingly kept the door to reconciling with him open.
According to the Daily Mail, an insider explained that Charles received advice from religious leaders, which provided him with some “spiritual nourishment” and a willingness to mend the fractured relationship with his youngest son.
“Faith has always been a part of Charles’s life and something he’s explored, but since becoming King it is playing a more central role,” the insider noted.
The source further pointed out that the king hasn’t lost his fatherly love for Harry and remains hopeful of his return.
Although it’s been reported that Harry’s calls to the king, especially in the wake of his cancer diagnosis, had gone unanswered, the insider disclosed that the monarch “misses his son.”
“He still loves Harry and wants him back for personal reasons – regardless that he and Meghan do not [want to] return to royal life,” the source said.
“Harry will always be Charles’s much-loved son. He has faith that Harry could return. He misses the bond they once had, and the door will always remain open to him and his family. He does not want years of discord and disharmony clouding his reign,” they added.
