Kim Kardashian passed a skin condition down to her son, and recently opened up about the journey her family has endured for generations.
According to Page Six, the entertainment icon has struggled with psoriasis for years, and experienced an exceptionally brutal flare ahead of 2022’s Met Gala.
“It started to cover my face, and there was a spot really close to my eye, and it would just burn a little bit. I remember I had the Met Ball coming up that week and it was covering my face.” Kardashian searched for answers and discovered that managing the disorder came down to stress and diet.
“Psoriasis broke out over my body and I got psoriatic arthritis, so I couldn’t really move my hands. I had to go to a rheumatologist who put me on a steroid. I was freaking out. I cut out the meat again, and it calmed down. I think I manage my stress pretty well, so it’s shocking to me.”
Kim is not the only Kardashian to struggle with the skin disorder. The Skims founder recently revealed that she got it from her mother, and passed it down to her son.
“It came from my mom, went to me … and I passed it on in a different form to my son, who has vitiligo very mildly.”
Vitiligo, as defined by the Mayo Clinic, “occurs when cells that produce melanin die or stop functioning” and “causes loss of skin color in patches.” Kardashian was initially unaware of what the condition entailed, but did some research to discover that her genes could have spurred the condition.
“I didn’t know anything about it, but having to learn about it and figuring out where it came from and that it’s hereditary and just learning more and being able to share that [has been a blessing].”
The loving mother-of-four assured the public that her son’s condition is currently “under control,” but did not reveal which son (both of whom she shares with ex Kanye West) inherited her skin struggles.
